Theology for conservation biologists

Concurrently with its political strategy course, Conservation Biology offers theological instruction. The latest chapter of David W. Orr's scriptures ends with these holy words:

The root of all evil does not begin with money, but with the carbon in its various forms that money can buy. The exploitation of carbon is the original sin leading quite possibly to the heat death of a great portion of life on Earth, including us. This is what James Lovelock calls the revenge of Gaia, which, if it comes to pass, will be Hell on Earth.
