A massive global problem

"We must act now. Give me your money!" Otherwise, Saddam will fire his weapons of mass destruction, climate change will be catastrophic, ecosystems and their services will disintegrate, and the financial system will collapse. What next?
Human health presents a [...] massive global problem. Globalization is accelerating the spread of AIDS, drug-resistant forms of tuberculosis, and other infectious agents. Industrialization, with its accompanying sedentary life-styles and extended life spans, is creating new epidemics of obesity, diabetes, cancer, and heart disease, among others.
Jim Wells and Mary Woolley want you to give more money now for "understanding our own [molecular] biology and discovering agents that can provide cures." Otherwise,
we consign ourselves and future generations to a world with little hope for dramatically improving human health and well-being.
