Seal hunt season is on in Canada. Countless blogs are protesting it. A US family wrote to the Canadian senate urging it to stop the killing, and one of the senators replied that the US is doing worse things in Iraq.
I have a two-step solution to the conflict. First, privatize the seals and the lands where they live. For example, let the Canadian government give them out for free to Inuit, local fishermen, or whoever, or auction them and give me the proceeds. Second, let the new owners do whatever they want with the land and the seals. This should include selling them to third parties. People who are against the seal hunt could then put their money where their mouths are.
Make deals, not war.
