Are greens bad for the environment?

I have just found The Daily Ablution. I first read this post, where Scott Burgess makes well-deserved fun of a green moralizer. Don't miss the comments. Then I went to this other exhilarating post. According to a report in The Independent, a major factor causing deforestation in the Amazon is European phobia of genetically modified foods. This is because Brazil, unlike the U.S. and others, "did not go down the GM route" and so we Europeans are buying huge amounts of soya produced in Amazonian lands. Scott Burgess analysis of The Independent's treatment of the subject is worth reading. And I have added The Daily Ablution to my blogroll.
