Export subsidies and international aid

KickAAS, a blog that brings us amazing facts about the absurdities of agricultural subsidies, carried this a while ago: "The $230 billion given to farmers in wealthy countries every year is 30 times the aid given to poor nations."

In fact, subsidies that result in lower international food prices may be better than official aid. Official aid tends to end in the hands of kleptocrats in poor countries, while low food prices benefit everyone, specially the poor.
